About WCPS Pre-K

WAYNE COUNTY SCHOOLS PRE-K PROGRAM

Wayne County Public Schools works hard to meet the needs of all students PK – 12, and we recognize that early intervention is the key. As such, we provide early learning opportunities for students throughout the district.

Pre-K services are designed to provide students in five domains. Those domains are:
  • Approaches to play and learning
  • Emotional and social development
  • Health and physical development
  • Language development and communication
  • Cognitive development
Children in NC Pre-K
  • Learn about letters, colors, shapes and numbers
  • Learn to develop positive relationships with peers and teachers
  • Listen to stories and learn about books
  • Explore math, science, art and music
  • Expand language skills
  • Develop a positive sense of self and an enthusiasm for learning
  • Explore and play outside daily
Pre-K students are served for a full school day and operate on the same calendar as traditional public schools. In order to be eligible for Pre-K a child must turn 4 years old by August 31 and be entering Kindergarten the following year.
